Killhope Lead Mining Museum (5mins away)
The North of England Lead Mining Museum, better known as Killhope, is an industrial museum near the village of Cowshill, County Durham, England. The museum stands on the site of the former Park Level Mine, which is being restored to show the workings of a 19th-century lead mine.
The Weardale Museum (10mins away) was formed in 1984 when a small group of volunteers took advantage of a renovation scheme at High House Chapel to change the use of the adjoining former manse into a museum preserving the history and heritage of the Dale.
The Durham Dales Centre (20mins away) is situated in Stanhope, Weardale in the heart of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). A unique venue with a range of attractions such as a tearoom offering homemade hot and cold meals, speciality coffees and teas, gift shops and speciality craft shops, gardens, visitor information, function room and business offices.
Nenthead Mines is a historic place at Nenthead, near Alston, in Cumbria, UK. This remote valley is covered by remains from the lead and zinc mining industry of the North Pennines, including mine entrances, watercourses, dressing-floors and buildings.
Carrs Mine is an old lead and zinc mine which is open to visitors on special days. Please check website for opening days and times.
Alston has a steep cobbled main street with a distinctive market cross, and many stone buildings dating from the 17th Century.
